We know that researchers must ponder big ideas, thirst for knowledge, gather information, access information, ask good questions, view things from different perspectives and exercise intellect. This is the essence of the ALPHA program. Part of my job is to help your kiddo develop scholarly behaviors.
We also know that researchers don't sit in laboratories all day long. They must go out in their field of study and gather information. This week your little one transformed into researchers, more specifically, they became ecologists!
We began our research by looking at a picture. Their job was to observe, ponder and analyze the the picture, and then, figure out what connections these pictures had with one another. Can you figure out what your little researcher investigated in ALPHA this week?

I know what you are thinking! I had to gently remind my ecologists that they are researchers, and researchers don't begin their investigations knowing all the answers. I wanted them to stretch their thinking. This is what I got....
I loved it! Most kiddos didn't get the right answer, but I didn't care! They demonstrated that they were willing to stretch their thinking so that the pictures made sense, and they were willing to take a risk with their thoughts. This kind of stuff makes me so happy!
Then, I gave them clue #2. What?!? I didn't give them the answer to the picture? Yep, it's true, I required them to use some of their problem solving skills.
After some time, all my scholars were able to figure it out! And with that, we set off to gather more information about our topic for the week! But, before we left our laboratory (aka our classroom) we had to have all the right materials... our scholarly notebook paper to save information, our handy-dandy animal print pencils, and to top it off, our safari hats to keep the sun out of our eyes! Let me tell ya... your little ones took their research very seriously...they were the real deal!!!!

These ecologists ran into some problems along the way, but with a little problem solving, determination and team work they will able to figure them out!
We had fun the last two weeks as we learned the basics of the grasslands. They also learned that in school our iPads are not for playing games, but rather, a tool used to learn and gain knowledge...just like text books, paper and pencils!
I can't even begin to express how wonderful it was to receive love, cards and gifts for my birthday. This was truly a surprise, which I never expected, but it was the absolute best! It made me feel very special! You know, it isn't always easy being the "new kid on the block", but my new Blattman family has done an awesome job at making me feel welcomed! Thank you so much for everything!
I would also like to thank all my parents who financially gave to the Blattman GT department. All funds will go directly back to our students. Your support is truly valued and appreciated! Thank you!
Have a great weekend!
