I love this activity because... 1. It helps me figure out my student's background knowledge. What do my kids already know? 2. It s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s thinking!!!! Students must really observe, analyze and ponder in order to figure out how these pictures connect with one anonther. I absolutely love their responses! (This is how I know I love being a teacher, because this stuff truly swells my heart with joy!) |
Let me start off by saying, "I love how technology motivates and engages student learning!" We live in such a different world than when we were kids. The traditional, sit and get, doesn't work for my little ones.
Let me also state, "Teaching 1st and 2nd graders how to find and notate information for research is very difficult!" Very Difficult! And let's be honest, it's not always fun! So, I'm always trying to find ways to really engage my students with this difficult task. Using technology has been key!
Let me also clarify, I believe in balance. I believe in real books and pencils! I believe in art and recess! I believe in meaningful conversations in my classroom. It's all about balance!
With all that said, for warm up we reviewed the food chain. I used this "magical" coloring sheet for review. My kids loved it! Ask them about it!!!! (yes, technology was involved!)
In a couple of weeks we'll use another "magical" coloring sheet in a much more meaningful lesson. I can't wait!!!!
1st graders will do this activity next week.
Lastly, I wrote another post on the Student Blog. There is no homework involved, it's a "just for fun" post for my kiddos! Go back to the top of the page and click the Student Blog tab.
Have a safe and fun weekend!!!!
